About Selsine

Mission

Selsine is an independent standards organization dedicated to advancing excellence in hospitality through rigorous, transparent assessment methodologies. We develop and maintain the Selsine Standard—a comprehensive framework for evaluating restaurant quality that combines scientific rigor with practical applicability.

The Standard

The Selsine Standard represents years of research in quality management, sensory evaluation, and hospitality excellence. Our nine-criterion framework evaluates establishments across multiple dimensions, from culinary execution to service excellence, sustainability practices, and atmospheric design.

Unlike proprietary assessment systems, the Selsine Standard is fully transparent. We publish our criteria, weights, and methodologies openly, enabling scrutiny from academic institutions, industry professionals, and the public while maintaining assessment integrity through rigorous inspector training and quality assurance protocols.

Licensing & Partnerships

Prestigious organizations worldwide license the Selsine Standard to power their certification programs, guide publications, and quality recognition initiatives. Each licensee implements the Standard according to their specific needs while maintaining methodological consistency and credibility.

Current licensees include Alarine, which uses the Selsine Standard for its restaurant awards program. Organizations interested in licensing the Standard for their certification or assessment programs may contact us for partnership inquiries.

Governance & Independence

The Selsine Standards Council maintains the methodology, oversees version updates, and ensures the integrity of the Standard. We operate independently from any single certification body, maintaining strict separation between standards development and commercial implementation.

Our commitment to independence ensures that the Standard evolves based on research, industry best practices, and stakeholder feedback—never commercial pressure or individual interests.

Research & Development

We collaborate with hospitality schools, culinary institutes, and research organizations to continuously refine and validate our methodologies. The Standard undergoes regular review, with updates published transparently through our versioning system.
